A legal fm CB is the best to begin with can be a 40 fm or 80 channel fm euro and a k40 mag mount is one of the best

CB Ariels,  it has a magnet to hold it on your car, you will have to get a SWR meter to to tune the Ariel in

with the radio and it’s always good to drive upon a hill top park up switch on and listen
and when a person comes talking to some one else  in with a signal of 3-4-5  then it’s time to say  Q S K

That allows you to be let in on there conversation say copy copy tell them your username which is

your handle and off you go channel 14 is the channel you call on for a copy meaning do you copy

any one for a copy a chat.channel 19 is the truckers channel

Hi all

I found this forum while doing a search for CB in Devon. Looks like it’s fairly new so hopefully a few more people will join in.

I bought my 1st CB radio just after the purchase of my 1st car at the age of 18 in either late ‘82 or early ‘83. It was a Harrier CBX from Halfords in Exeter, Sidwell Street. I also picked up a dial a match aerial, mag mount and swr meter at the same time. Once it was in the car I had loads of fun driving around, meeting people and taking part in what we called fox hunts, where someone would drive off to a unknown stationary location occasionally transmitting and the other cars would have to drive around and find them using the rf gain to home in on them. Great fun. Then we used to end up at what was then Granada services drinking coffee until the early hours. Good times.

Graham

@radioactive thanks for the reply. I don’t really remember squeezy. I also knew Boxer I think. His name was Colin and he was a good mate. I’d like to get in touch with him again if it’s the same chap. Also went by the handle of Dealer. I have a home base setup now with an old Harrier CBHQ and A99.

Regards

Graham

I'm a bit far away. Is he still in Whipton? If you call in my old handle is Squeaker. I'm sure he will remember me
